She's a one-woman force of nature, and a muse for contemporary
composers.
From the first pluck of the pipa string through to the last
percussive pelt on the 2000 year-old lute-like instrument, Grammy
Award nominee and 2013 Instrumentalist of The Year, Wu Man will
have you hooked.
A virtuoso and ambassador of the pipa, Wu Man brings us music
from the borderlands, music that defies expectations, music so epic
it spans dynasties. Her creativity and curiosity have led to
collaborations with leading contemporary composers such as Philip
Glass, Tan Dun and Terry Riley, and performances with the Silk Road
Ensemble, cellist Yo-Yo Ma, and the Kronos Quartet.
With a repertoire that ranges from bluegrass to Beijing opera,
Wu Man plays selections from her 2010 recording Immeasurable
Light and her most recent album Borderlands. This
recital traces an illuminating and deeply personal journey of how
the pipa's story has shaped her own.
Go deep into the heartland of string-playing - you'll find magic
there.
